Farmers Fare next Green Drinks APRIL 11th
Our first Green Drinks was fun and encouraging. Please join us for our second and bring your thoughts, information, ideas and a smile. We will have a solar oven demo on the deck, weather permitting, and will be updating on our Facebook fan page with any new info as we go along.
FYI if you are new to the concept of Green Drinks:
No this isn't about green beer and St. Patty's, it's about meeting your like minded neighbors to discuss, network, express concern or delight about the environment and it's related issues.
These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity. It's a force for the good and we'd like to help it spread to other cities. We, Farmers Fare, are now the official GREEN DRINKS Rockport, the next nearest 'node' is in Portland.

"DBR and the New Clef Coalition"
Sunday March 7, 2010 at 2:30 p.m.

Recently featured with Lady Gaga on American Idol, Haitian-American Daniel Bernard Roumain (aka DBR) will perform with members of the Odeon Strings Program and guests as part of his concert: "DBR and the New Clef Coalition" presented by Bay Chamber Concerts at the Rockport Opera House on Sunday,  Described as the "hip-hop Mozart" and "Beethoven meets Lenny Kravitz," DBR is a composer, violinist and bandleader who seamlessly blends funk, rock, hip-hop and classical music into an innovative musical experience.  Many local student musicians will be performing live with DBR.

Many thanks go to the Camden Harbour Inn and Natalie's for sponsoring this concert which is also the culmination of our fundraising efforts for Wish for Haiti.

Here's some information about that:
The House of the Children of the Lack orphanage, is among the many buildings in Port-au-Prince destroyed by the disastrous earthquake on January 12, 2010. Bay Chamber Concerts and Wish for Haiti need your help in the relief and rebuilding efforts for this small, struggling orphanage. Bay Chamber Concerts is accepting donations on behalf of Wish for Haiti.  Audience members will have the opportunity to make donations to Wish for Haiti. At the end of the concert Bay Chamber Concerts will announce total money raised for the orphanage. 100% of funds raised will go directly to the orphanage.

To buy tickets call (207) 236-2823 or go online at www.baychamberconcerts.org. Most tickets are $25. Prime tickets $45. Youth tickets $8 (for ages 18 and under)."

Farmers Fare
Register early for Saturday APRIL 3rd - 4 to 6pm
Due to the overwhelming success of our first Indian Cooking Class at Farmers Fare we are scheduling another on Saturday April 3rd 2010 from 4 to 6pm.

The class will be taught by cooking instructor and restaurateur Gunjan Gilbert of “Tandoor Downeast”. This workshop will walk you through how to make some common recipes in an Indian “Thali”. In Hindi “Thali”
means plate, usually a large steel or copper plate with flat bread, basmati rice, vegetarian or non-vegetarian curries, and sauces.

The menu for the cooking class will be:

Parathas-Flat breads
Chutney
Daal Sambhar-Vegetarian curry
Lamb curry

Gunjan, a native of Pune, India, attended college and graduate school in Michigan before moving to Maine. Here, she met and eventually married Christian Gilbert. In 2005, the Gilberts started on a two-person mission to introduce Indian culture and cuisine to Downeast Maine. Through more than a dozen educational programs, Gunjan has brought the healthy, interesting, and unique aspects of India to Maine and the people from all over the world who vacation along the coast. Gunjan and Christian also provide prepared Indian meals at farmers markets in Blue Hill, Ellsworth, and Winter Harbor.

"When I teach people about Indian culture and cuisine," Gunjan says, "people also become more accepting and understanding of all the cultures of this world."

Cost of the class is $50 per person including ingredients.
